Instructional coaching is a direct support to classroom teaching and student learning, but most school districts do not have the capacity to provide specialized professional development for instructional coaches on their own. Our organization is vital because we provide the professional learning, networking, and shared resources that instructional coaches need in order to serve teachers effectively. Through our programs, coaches learn research-based strategies for supporting instruction, facilitating teacher reflection, using data, strengthening curriculum implementation, and improving classroom practice. Without this organization, many instructional coaches would have little or no access to role-specific professional development, limiting their ability to support educators and, ultimately, students. Our work therefore strengthens school instructional coaching programs by ensuring that coaches have the training, collaboration, and professional community necessary to improve teaching and learning across schools.
